The 9th International Workshop “Strong Microwaves and Terahertz Waves: Sources and Applications” will be held on July 24 - 30, 2014 on board a river boat starting from Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Symposia

The Workshop will consist of four strongly interrelated topical symposia:

  • Symposium S: High power microwave sources
  • Symposium H: Current drive and plasma heating by microwaves in nuclear fusion devices
  • Symposium T: Terahertz sources, diagnostics and nonlinear interactions
  • Symposium A: High power microwave applications (including accelerators, radars, gas discharges, material processing, biomedical applications etc.)

This workshop is a continuation of the “Strong Microwaves in Plasmas” workshops held triennially since 1990. The adjusted title reflects gradual changes in the workshop contents towards a broader range of frequencies and applications.
The scope of the workshop covers a wide circle of research activities of both fundamental and applied importance. The workshop is highly interdisciplinary in nature; it opens ample opportunities for the interaction between the researchers working in high-power microwave electronics and plasma physics, with strong emphasis on the development of diverse applications.
The three-year cycle chosen for the workshop provides the participants with the possibility to accumulate significant results of their research.

A School for Young Scientists will be held during the Workshop. Its program will include lectures on the key problems of generation and application of high power microwaves and terahertz waves delivered by top scientists. A special poster session will be organized for master students and PhD students.

Deadlines

The deadline for one-page abstract submission is May 15, 2014.
The deadline for two-page synopsis (extended abstract) submission is June 15, 2014.
Please see “Abstracts and Proceedings” and “Registration and visas” for more information.

Location

Traditionally, the workshop is held on board a river cruise boat. The format of the workshop offers opportunities for virtually unlimited discussions in addition to usual session presentations, and provides a rich cultural program.  The cruise route for this workshop will be along the Volga river and the Kama river from Nizhny Novgorod to Perm and back to Nizhny Novgorod.
The accommodation on board will be one- or two-berth cabins; breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Also, complimentary coffee will always be available during the breaks.

Social program

There will be a social program for the participants and accompanying persons, which will include sightseeing and historical tours on the cruise route, classical music concerts aboard, and the Workshop dinner.
